Andi Eigenmann Talks About Family, Career and Matteo on Her Cosmo debut

There’s no denying that taking the lead role in ABS-CBN’s primetime offering, Agua Bendita, jumpstarted Andi’s career. But surprisingly, in her Cosmo feature this September, the top-billing fantaserye star, reveals that despite being borne of two veteran actors—Mark Gil and Jaclyn Jose, she really didn’t want to become an actress because of her experiences of growing up in a showbiz family.

Andi shares that growing up with actors as parents wasn’t any different from any other family. “It’s just that we didn’t get to go out. And when we did, it’s hard; it used to be a hassle for me. I was uncomfortable with the attention.” Andi shares. “That’s why I never thought I’d want to be in the industry. Even my friends were really surprised that I ended up entering it.” She adds, “I guess it’s because my parents, my kuya [Sid Lucero], and my sister [Maxene Eigenmann] have been in the industry before I was, and I know how it is already, so there was no point in trying it out.”

Andi also admits that at first, it was a challenge for her to adjust to the limelight. “People will judge you—whether the industry or just the viewers. But now, I realize that I don’t care,” she reveals. “If you don’t like who I am, that’s your problem, not mine. Haha!”

She also openly talks about her crush on Jericho Rosales but Cosmo wanted to know what she thought of one of this year’s Cosmo centerfolds—Matteo Guidicelli. When Matteo was featured as Cosmopolitan Man on Fire last June, he mentioned that he had a crush on Andi. What was her reaction to this? “No! he doesn’t have a crush on me! Nambobola lang iyon! Matteo and I are too good of friends, super friends actually.”

With so many promising things on her plate and considering how accomplished she already is at a young age, it’s surprising to hear that Andi’s ultimate goal for herself is to simply “be successful and at the same time be genuinely happy person.”

Read the full story of Andi Eigenmann’s humble beginnings in Cosmo’s September issue. It comes with the Cosmo Men Supplement with Sam Milby on the cover.

Maricar Reyes makes her Cosmopolitan debut

Beauty and brains. Those are the first two words that will come to mind when you see Maricar Reyes. In her first-ever Cosmopolitan cover, Maricar shares her thoughts on juggling careers, living well, and loving herself.

It was a simple but definitely memorable skincare commercial that launched Maricar’s modeling career while she was still a student of Biology in Ateneo. But, finishing her medical degree in UST always came first over modeling. Once she was done, however, show business came knocking on her door and like other model-turned-celebrities, the natural progression into showbiz just seemed to good to miss. “When an opportunity presents itself, you have to explore it. I guess that’s what I did,” she shares.

From modeling, she honed her acting skills and began to take roles in shows like I Love Betty La Fea, Precious Hearts Romances presents Bud Brothers, May Bukas Pa, Lovers in Paris, Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo and co-starred in two successful movies; And I love You So and I Miss You Like Crazy---- all with the biggest and finest actors in the industry.

Despite being busy with her showbiz career, Maricar still finds time to see patients in a small clinic in Pasig City. How does she handle both professions? Maricar says, “My schedule is okay. I manage for some reason; ang galing! If there’s a day na wala akong masyadong trabaho sa showbiz, that’s the day that I have patients.”

Aside from acting and medicine, Maricar’s other passion lies in being a triathlete. “What I love about it is that it takes a lot of discipline. You really need to set aside time to train, which is actually very challenging for most people.”

Cosmopolitan’s August issue is all about beauty so we asked Maricar how she stays beautiful. “I drink lots of water. I have a night cream, day cream --- just standard girl things… Showbiz did contribute a bit (to my beauty regimen), because you’re under scrutiny all the time. I’ve learned so much about makeup now compared to before when I didn’t really own any makeup.”

Cosmopolitan’s August issue with Maricar Reyes on the cover also features the 2010 Cosmo Beauty Awards! Cosmopolitan is available in newsstands, bookstores, and supermarkets nationwide for only P125.

Cosmo cover girl Marian Rivera tells detractors: Deadma!

Deadma. That’s how Marian Rivera chooses to deal with detractors, now that she has lasted three years in the crazy world of show business. She tells Cosmopolitan as she graces their cover for the third time in her career, “Hindi talaga lahat ng tao mapi-please mo eh. Mas importante lang na mas marami ang may gusto sa iyo kaysa d’un sa mga may ayaw sa iyo. Bigyan mo lang lagi ng importansya ang mga taong love ka; at dun sa mga taong hindi ka gusto, deadma!”

Marian has come a long way since she was cast in the sultry and sexy role of Marimar three years ago. Aside from having a string of primetime hits like Dyesebel and Ang Babaeng Hinugot sa Aking Tadyang to her name, she is now branching out to comedy with People’s Champ Manny Pacquiao in Show Me the Manny and action with the iconic role of Darna.

Work has been good to Marian, and at last, her love life is also settling into a happy place. Real-life love and Cosmo Centerfold Dingdong Dantes is turning out to be her perfect partner. “Ine-enjoy lang naming lahat. Masaya kami sa isa’t isa—ganun ka-open yung relationship namin,” she says.
Should any woman try to steal her man, Marian warns that she is definitely the selosa type, but only with good reason. “Transparent ako eh, kapag gusto ko, gusto ko…kung ano nakikita ninyo, talagang ako ‘yun. At kapag gan’un, kailangan pangatawanan mo, kasi may mga consequence ‘yan. Basta happy lang, at dapat walang nasasagasaan.”

Gerald Anderson debuts on Men’s Health Philippines

It’s been four years since we last saw Gerald Anderson inside the PBB house. Who would have thought that his exposure on the show would catapult his career to super stardom? Now at 21 years old, Gerald has successfully transformed himself from teenage heartthrob to one of the country’s most bankable leading men.

“Ang iniisip ko kasi sinasabi ng iba, puro teenybopper [ginagawa ko] pero ang tanda ko na para maging ganun. Sabi ko sa sarili ko hindi na ‘ata bagay. So ang mga role na ginawa ko starting sa Tayong Dalawa, mature na, kaya sinabay ko na mag-workout,” shares Gerald, who started to put some muscle to his gangly physique last year.

His Men’s Health debut on the magazine’s 5th Anniversary issue comes at a perfect time. Gerald is at the prime of his career and he’s in the best shape he’s ever been. For his Men’s Health shoot, Gerald bravely hung on rails high above the ground and hopped on walls without a harness.

Surprisingly, unlike other showbiz hunks, Gerald reveals that he dreads going to the gym, “Going to the gym, hindi talaga ako nage-enjoy at all, kahit konti”, but whenever he feels lazy to work out, he thinks of his goals. “Merong mga araw na tatamarin ka, na ayaw mo bumangon. ‘Yung gusto mo lang magpahinga pero kailangan mo mag-gym, ang hirap nun. Iniisip ko na lang na kailangan.”

Now that his hard work has paid off and it seems like everything is going very well for the young actor, how does he handle the pressure that comes with the job? “It helps. I keep it in mind para mas masipag ako sa gagawin ko. Mas focused, mas seryoso,” he says. “Kung walang pressure sa gagawin mo, parang wala lang din ang maibibigay mo. Kung malaking pressure sa’yo, gagawin mo lahat para maghanda sa performance mo.”

Find out more about how Gerald Anderson keeps fit in the May issue of Men’s Health Magazine Philippines, now available in newsstands, bookstores and supermarkets nationwide. For more fitness tips online, visit www.menshealth.com.ph.

Budding actor, Carl Guevara lands his first Men’s Health cover this April

Though fairly new in showbiz, Carl Guevarra is very determined to reach the top just as how he managed to take on Men’s Health’s challenge of having him do wall climbing for the first time during the shoot of his first Men’s Health cover. With the convincing confidence he displayed during the pictorial, it didn’t seem like it was his first time at all!

Men’s Health thinks that Guevara’s concept of climbing through walls is a representation of the actor. After all, he’s just about to scale the heights of the entertainment industry. Besides, the manner by which he likes to go about his business – career, weight-loss, or life in general – is exactly how walls must be climbed: you take it step by step.

At sixteen years old, Carl had to face weight problems. “At my heaviest, I was 230 plus pounds,” he informs. “Waistline ko nun 38.” With the guidance of his personal trainer, Guevara hit the gym and focused on cardio exercises. In a year, with proper diet and exercise, he brought down his weight to 148 pounds. He readily admits that this was wrong. “Under weight na kasi ‘yun, may time na ayoko na talagang kumain. Sobrang mali talaga, buti nga naitama ko na.” If there was one thing that he learned from his efforts of losing weight, it’s that slow and sure wins the game. “Naniniwala kasi ako na okay lang kahit mabagal basta sure na sure na tama yung kalalabasan,” he says.

Guevara is willing to take it slow, and with his move to a new network, start anew. He has no demands, no qualms. He’s willing to take on anything and work with anyone. “Kasi doon makikita yung versatility mo as an actor”, he says adamantly. When asked if he’s ready for the long haul of show business, intrigues, long hours, the young actor gives Men’s Health a confident smile and says “Pinasok ko to, kailangan panindigan.”

The April issue of Men’s Health Philippines with cover guy, Carl Guevara is available in newsstands,

bookstores and supermarkets nationwide. It also comes with the premiere issue of Runner’s World

Philippines. For more of Men’s Health online, visit wwws.menshealth.com.ph.

Dennis Trillo is fitter than he’s ever been on Men’s Health Philippines

It has been more than two years since Dennis Trillo first graced the cover of Men’s Health Magazine and it is evident how much the 28-year-old matinee idol has changed. Dennis now sports a leaner physique, more cuts on his body, and a more defined six-pack. Even his face has changed. He looks more serious and grown up; slender cheekbones, a sharper jaw, and a slight severity only seen in adults who’ve seen life and all its hardships.

What has happened from then till now? For the past 2 years, Dennis Trillo has been working hard, training hard and living a healthier, fuller life. What most people don’t know is that the change Trillo underwent, physically and otherwise, was not brought about by a smart career move. It’s something deeper and much closer to his heart: “…Mas lalo ako napaisip na maging fit and magpa-condition ng katawan after what happened to my mom--she had open-heart surgery last year. So because of that, naisip ko na kailangan ko talaga maging healthy para makaiwas sa sakit, lalo na s’yempre, di na ako bumabata.” Check out the behind-the-scenes- of his Men's Health cover shoot:

While Dennis had been in the habit of exercising even before, his workouts are more serious now. Dennis has even added a Filipino martial art called Yaw-yan or Sayaw ng Kamatayan, which combines kickboxing with ground fighting techniques and weapons such as Arnis, to his workout routine. Yaw-yan was introduced to him by a cousin, who told him to try the discipline since he was so passionate about MMA. “He told me that I would be able to appreciate watching MMA fights more if I understood all the moves and what the fighters did,” he explains. “Hindi lang kasi basta fight ang MMA, it’s a sport. It’s not just freestyle fighting. I get hyped up every time I watch a UFC event or any UFC match because everything’s so unpredictable.”

Dennis even bonds with his two-year old son by former beauty queen Carlene Aguilar, Calix Andreas, over MMA and boxing. The night before his Men’s Health cover shoot, he was up late horsing around with his son. “He even has gloves!” enthuses the proud Papa. “Mahilig din siya sa fighting. He can throw straight punches --- ma
runong na siya. I’m his punching bag most of the time, although he does have his own punching bag. Magaling na nga eh. Makakaknock-out na ‘yan ng ibang bata!”

Yaw-yan and M
MA taught this young actor not only effective fighting techniques but also to take a different outlook in life. Now, he sees himself as a modern day warrior facing up to everyday challenges. “Sa MMA or Yaw-yan, marami kang diskarte, pwedeng strike, pwedeng rest, pwedeng submission. Naisip ko yung diskarte mo sa buhay hindi lang pwedeng isa eh. Iba-iba din ang kailangan mong gawin. Madaming trials especially last year, pero andito parin ako, nalagpasan ko lahat.”

Learn more about Dennis Trillo’s love for Yaw-yan and how you can inject MMA into your workout by grabbing a copy of the February issue of Men’s Health Philippines, now available in newsstands, bookstores and supermarkets nationwide for only P140.

A bad and bold Piolo Pascual on Men’s Health Philippines

An explosive New Year awaits us and what better way to start it than see the country’s most sought

after leading man transform his look from pretty boy veneer to bad boy appeal on his first Men’s Health cover. Inside the magazine, Pascual takes heavy blows, purple bruises and bleeding cuts while maintaining his muscular stance.

The battle-scarred Pascual is ready to fight and take on all corners – be it the challenges he’s yet to face or the critics he’s yet to convince. Even with the fame and fortune he’s receiving, he still claims not to be in his peak form yet. “I don’t think I’ve already maximized my potential – not just as an actor, but as a businessman, a performer, an entertainer. Life never stops to wait for you, so you should never stop. In anything you just keep going,” he says.

Even after eleven years in showbiz where he’s garnered a grand slam feat for Dekada 70’, a series of well-regarded product endorsements, two produced films and a sixth solo album he now wants to add another role to this long list of achievements: runner.

From an interview he did during the Timex run last November 15, Piolo says that he believes in being athletic and his plan is that as he gets older, the more he’ll get into sports. He also claims that it’s not about extending his youth but about being able to do more. In his Men’s Health interview he claims that he’s totally smitten by the feeling of pounding pavement and that he runs 5-10K every other day. “I want to be better that’s why I train every other day. The same as with working out, you always challenge yourself. You always want to be better with whatever you do,” he adds. Seeing from his initial pace of 4:47 per kilometer, Pascual’s gunning for excellence is obvious even in his new found hobby.

Find more about Piolo’s fitness regimen and how to get his abs as he shares his 6-pack strategy in the January issue of Men’s Health Philippines, now available in newsstands, bookstores and supermarkets nationwide. For more fitness tips online, visit www.menshealth.com.ph.
